AU Backstory Planning Post

Every month, we'll have a post where new characters and old characters can plan out backstories with one another. This should hopefully get characters something to work with when coming up with their alternate universes and get some prebuilt CR for those who are looking for it! This is NOT a requirement, you could be an unattached person if you'd like! However, for those who do want it, this is the place for you!

Before you start with making an AU, I would recommend getting familiar with some of the information to get an idea of how the setting works here.

For established characters, you can use this post as well! If you have an "open to all" type of CR where you're always needing a certain type of CR, you can do that here! This includes a restaurant needing regular patrons or a teacher needing students, guinea pigs for experiments, etc. Open to All is literally Open to All, it is never closed until the OP player adds a CLOSED comment so if you're a new player, don't feel like you're overwhelming them by commenting!!

Heron as Heron is a pretty scrungly skater street kid who likes tea and coffee so he could have been a semi-regular customer at the coffeeshop POSSIBLY EVEN back when he was still a student bringing in textbooks and using another name (sighs it was Dankmaster Memelord or Helltaker Jones or something equally awful I'm so sorry) but at some point the textbooks disappeared and his scrungliness increased. He still comes in though and recently switched to using Heron as his name for orders. Just less than before because Magpie likes the cat cafe more. Sorry he has brother priorities.

Heron as Crow is a quiet and careful info-broker and surveillance expert who could maybe be part of the night crowd irregulars and maybe has sold info to Frost? Taken a few jobs gathering specific info for him? He usually specialises in chasing down particularly corrupt or nasty big crime types, violent offenders who manage to slip out of consequences because of money etc. But he'll do benign background checks of astounding thoroughness for a reasonable price unless it's someone from Cirrus. Cirrus is NOTABLY off his books, can't pay him to mess with them. As Crow he also dresses in much darker, neater, practical clothing, wears a blue or purple wig, face mask and coloured contacts, and some variety of hat, along with changing his posture/body language and pitching his voice differently to disguise his identity. He probably orders cold drinks so he can use a straw to drink without removing his face mask most of the time.

I just think it's fun to have a day-time and night-time CR split okay. BUT I am also open to Frost having some suspicions about Crow's real identity or something too, especially since both of them have been absent since the cruise started. how coincidental. IF ANY OF THIS SOUNDS GOOD or you have other ideas or anything, grabby hands.

- if he's a semi-regular Frost absolutely quietly noted the changes and retained his order preferences even when he stopped dropping in as much. always unfailingly polite and welcoming, always glad to see someone he knows stopping by again.
- Crow could absolutely have sold info to Frost and taken work from him; Frost doesn't actually usually request info on other Cirruses as much (he uses his own Family-internal resources for that more often than not). Might have commented that it's wise for Crow to refuse those jobs, actually; when you're digging into the Atmosphere it's easy to find yourself suddenly digging too deep.
- He did take info on both criminal activity and the more benign background checks. Other than avoiding the sale of info on people that are too closely associated with him he deals very broadly in what he takes in and gives out.
- Crow/Heron would've noticed that while he's zen as fuck during the day, Frost really comes alive when he's doing his business at the lounge during the night. Coffeeshop and teaching and teens are his chill time, but the info dance and social circling and shady games are his element. He doesn't come off as like a crimelord or kingpin or whatever but he does come off as a fairly dangerous individual. True neutral rep in the underground of Port Manteau, considered absolutely unfuckwithable on his own premises.
- I am down for the split generally; I don't think he'd mark the direct connection as much because for him basically half the neighborhood went on the Dreamdrift weeks before he arrived on it LMAO. But he'd certainly suspect both of them are on the ship as a result of the timing of their absences!
- He might be testing his info contacts actually since Dzel also did something with him knowing Hyacinth's hacker identity and we're playing with that some. So if you want to get a call specifically on the Crow persona's number at a funny time, I'm game.

right a whole bunch of people disappeared all at once, that's true. Crow very much taking advantage of that to cover for himself. and yeah as much as Heron loves his normal life there is definitely a different and more focused energy to him as Crow. you have to be sharper to do the shady info-broker things and get involved in crime life.

I am absolutely down to get a call specifically for Crow! he packed his BusinessTM phone and even his full Crow disguise.
